[ He walks him over to the sofa here he tugs him down into his lap and delivers those promised pets. ]

Its hard to undo damage, but the most important thing is that you don't blame yourself or punish yourself for feeling the way you do.

[ He offers himself to sync, if Ashe wants. It's open, and the same familiar calm that is always Byleth's signature. Though lately it does feel less cold than before, and there are waves rippling the surface, caressing the shore. ]

You can release the tension you're holding.

[The hands in his hair feel so nice. Ashe lets out an uneasy breath that he didn't know he was holding, trying to release tension.]

I-I don't know if I should sync right now. I don't want you to feel what I'm feeling...

[Most of it is negative, memories and thoughts bouncing in his head. He wants to just focus on the present, but it's difficult.]

I don't mind. Part of love is taking the good with the bad. It's there if you want, but if not that's all right too.

[ He'll just continue stroking his hair and his back comfortably, leaning him back a little more so he can lay down tucked into Byleth's chest. ]

[Scared as he is, Ashe does open up a bit, letting himself feel what Byleth offers. Try as he might, he can only give his lack of self-esteem in return, which is a poor exchange really.]

[ And he can. It does make him sad of course, for Ashe. Knowing he's been holding onto all of this by himself. He just hums softly, something adjacent to the tune he had heard Rhea sing on a few occasions. Hand slowly moving against Ashe's back. ]

I-I know you can handle it. You're one of the strongest people I know, it's just...

I wish I could give you something better than what I'm feeling right now. All I want is to help other people, especially the people I care most about.

[Oh. That's a nice song. He doesn't recognize it at all, but it's pleasant and soothing, despite everything. That, along with the synchrony, does help calm him a little.]

I want to believe what you've told me. So much.

These things are a give and a take. You give plenty of yourself, now let it be my turn.

[ A kiss lands on his forehead, Byleth wrapping him tighter in his arms. ]

I hope that one day you do, but right now, I want you to just focus on your breath.

[Hands tremble as they rise up and grip onto Byleth's sleeve. He finds himself sniffling, trying not to be upset, but it happens anyway.

So the feelings spill out. His loneliness, how much he's convinced himself that he wouldn't be loved. That surely there must be something wrong with Ashe even though he can't name anything specifically.]

[ There. Let it all out. Let me help you lift your burden. Byleth simply allows Ashe to pour those feelings into him. It hurts, naturally. He hurts for him, but he's far more glad to have him purge these things after all. He kisses his head, still humming that tune- one of the few songs he really remembers.

There is nothing wrong with you. You deserve all the love in the world. ]

[He truly cannot help but weep now. Memories flit through his mind-- Lonato, Claude, and others.

What did I do wrong? Why aren't I enough? Why can't I just get over it?]

These things take time. You didn't do anything wrong, you're more than enough for the people in your life that matter.

[ He has an answer to everything, but he doesn't fight Ashe on it either, he allows him to simply siphon manna and take what he needs right now. The image in his mind of his ocean returns, and he takes Ashe's hand, leading him to the waters edge. Sitting him down and letting the water ebb and flow over their feet. ]

It's okay.

[The water is a perfect balance of being cool and soothing while not being too cold either. It laps over their feet, and Ashe finds himself leaning against Byleth, wanting to cling and dig for comfort.]

It's like I can't make my mind stop thinking the worst possible things.

I wish I could remove those thoughts for you.

All I can do is tell you otherwise, when you tell me them. I will do it as much and as often as I need to.

[ An arm loops around Ashe's shoulders, pulling him closer. ]

You're a good man, Ashe.
